Factor Influencing Learning Outcome in Nursing Education Using Gamification: A Scoping Review

Purpose: This review explored trends in studies on learning outcomes nursing education using gamification, to provide directions for future research.Methods: scoping was conducted according the Joanna Briggs Institute's guidelines. The literature search date February 1, 2021.Results: Thirty-two were included. largest proportion of quantitative descriptive studies, including qualitative mixed methods (34.4%). More applied gamification practical classes (53.1%) than theoretical classes. Virtual simulation games (37.9%) and simple quiz (34.4%) most often used. Commonly used elements included scores/points, feedback, badges, countdowns, challenges, competitions, levels. Two themes emerged regarding impact learning: learners’ experiences achievement with cognitive, affective, psychomotor subthemes. Nursing improved engagement, motivation, achievement. However, there less evidence affective cognitive outcomes.Conclusion: Gamification can be an effective educational strategy if educator's have sufficient understanding readiness appropriate are education. Further research should investigate knowledge retention domain, collaboration empathy improvement skills new technologies domain.
